1,000+ Companies Sue US for Tariff Refunds After Supreme Court Ruling

Over 1,000 companies, including FedEx, Costco, and Nintendo, are suing the US government for tariff reimbursements. The legal action follows a Supreme Court ruling in February 2026 that declared former President Trump's tariffs unconstitutional. Many businesses now seek to recover funds paid under the contested trade policies.

The disputes began when the Trump administration introduced tariffs that raised costs on imports. Hardware entering China and products like Nintendo consoles entering the US became more expensive. Companies quickly challenged these measures in court.

The Court of International Trade temporarily halted Nintendo's lawsuit, along with hundreds of similar cases. Judges waited for the Supreme Court to decide whether the tariffs were lawful. After the February 2026 ruling, the floodgates opened for reimbursement claims. Major corporations, from logistics firms like FedEx to retailers like Costco, have now joined the legal push. Revlon and Essilor Luxottica are also among the plaintiffs. Each argues that the tariffs were imposed illegally and that refunds are owed.

The Supreme Court's decision has triggered a wave of lawsuits demanding repayment. Companies affected by the tariffs now have a legal path to recover lost funds. The outcome will determine whether billions in duties must be returned to businesses.
