1,400 Ballots for the State Election in Trier Invalid - 1,400 Trier mail-in ballots voided due to clerical error
Around 1,400 mail-in ballots in Trier were declared invalid because of an administrative mistake. The issue came to light after voters had already submitted their ballots by post. Local officials have now taken steps to correct the problem.
The error happened when absentee ballot certificates were issued without the required signature or name of a municipal employee. This missing detail made the documents invalid under voting rules. Voters affected by the mistake had already cast their ballots at Trier's absentee voting office.
To fix the issue, the city sent out new, valid voting documents to all those impacted. The replacement ballots ensure that every voter can still participate in the election. Officials have not released the total number of absentee voters originally registered in Trier.
The corrected ballots have now reached affected voters, allowing them to cast their votes properly. The incident highlights the importance of strict administrative checks in mail-in voting. All invalidated votes will be replaced with the newly issued documents.
