1,500+ Freight Trucks Stuck at Kazakhstan-China Border Amid Processing Delays

A significant traffic congestion, involving over 1,500 freight trucks, has accumulated at the Nur Zholy border crossing between Kazakhstan and China. This buildup is due to a combination of factors, including reduced processing capacity on the Chinese side and increased traffic volumes.

The bottleneck began in early November when China, due to construction at the nearby Dulat checkpoint, reduced throughput and diverted some traffic to Nur Zholy. This overwhelmed the latter's infrastructure, leading to a backlog.

In response, on November 13, Kazakhstan's State Revenue Committee temporarily lowered the daily EQS limit for Nur Zholy to 650 trucks. Despite this measure, the queue continues to grow, currently standing at over 1,500 vehicles.

Earlier, China had agreed to accept at least 800 trucks per day in October, with plans to increase this number to 1,000 by the end of the year. However, between November 8 and 12, China processed only an average of 700–750 vehicles per day, exacerbating the situation.

The State Revenue Committee is actively engaged in negotiations with the Chinese side to enhance the capacity of their checkpoints and alleviate the current congestion. The temporary reduction in EQS limit aims to manage the queue and prevent further backlog. The situation is being closely monitored, with authorities working to restore normal traffic flow.
