1.6 Million Euros for Integration: Eight Funding Decisions Awarded
Salzgitter has secured over €1.6 million in funding to boost local integration projects. The money comes from Lower Saxony’s Integration Fund and will support key initiatives throughout 2023. Mayor Frank Klingebiel highlighted the importance of continued financial backing beyond 2026 to sustain these efforts.
The new funds will help maintain a range of programmes aimed at fostering social cohesion. These include German language courses, job application training, and social meetups for residents. Additional projects cover school social work, preventive measures, and community-led initiatives.
Lower Saxony has invested heavily in integration over the past eight years, allocating €38 million across the state. The latest funding ensures Salzgitter can continue its work in strengthening a sense of belonging among its multicultural population. Mayor Klingebiel stressed that long-term support remains essential. Speaking at the **Niedersächsische Städtetag**, he called for sustained funding to prevent gaps in integration services after 2026.
The €1.6 million injection will fund critical projects in Salzgitter this year. These efforts aim to improve language skills, employment prospects, and community ties. Without further commitments, however, the city risks losing momentum in its integration work after the current funding period ends.
