10-Year-Old Chemnitz Student Wins Global Peace Art Prize
A 10-year-old student from Chemnitz has won a special prize in an international art competition focused on peace. Marius received the award from Mayor Sven Schulze for his contribution to the 2025 Mayors for Peace competition, themed Peaceful Towns.
The 2025 Mayors for Peace art competition invited children and young people to create original works exploring peace in urban life. This year's event drew 8,079 entries from 153 cities across 19 countries, with 52 winners selected globally.
Chemnitz has taken part in the annual competition since 2019, with 43 young artists from local schools submitting work this year. Marius stood out among them, earning recognition for his piece. The city has a history of success in the event—back in 2022, another local participant, Collien Gröber, secured first prize.
At least two German cities joined the 2025 edition: Chemnitz and Rüsselsheim. While Chemnitz celebrated Marius's achievement, Rüsselsheim held its own preliminary round, choosing 10 works to advance. Chemnitz itself has been part of Mayors for Peace, an organization pushing for nuclear disarmament and social cohesion, since 2006.
Marius's award highlights Chemnitz's ongoing involvement in the Mayors for Peace initiative. The competition continues to grow, with thousands of young artists worldwide sharing their visions of peace each year. This year's theme, Peaceful Towns, encouraged participants to reflect on harmony in urban communities.
