100 Days of Red-Green-Red: State Government Draws Positive Balance
Bremen’s red-green-red coalition has reviewed its first 100 days in power with optimism. Officials highlighted progress on economic plans, healthcare reforms and urban development. The government claims it is delivering on its early promises.
Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte pointed to concrete steps, including changes at Gesundheit Nord and upgrades to Martinistraße. Meanwhile, the Senate has set financial guidelines for the next two years, calling the approach pragmatic.
The coalition took office with a focus on economic growth and public services. Economics Senator Kristina Vogt outlined several key projects in her first three months. These include a new venture capital fund, restructuring the Gesundheit Nord healthcare group, boosting the port’s competitiveness and purchasing the Domsheide 4/5 property.
Budget planning has also moved forward. The Senate finalised the main financial parameters for 2024 and 2025, with Finance Senator Björn Fecker describing the framework as 'a budget of realistic solutions'. The aim is to balance spending with available resources.
One of the coalition’s flagship projects is a venture capital stock fund. Preparations and legal steps will run through late 2025, with the fund expected to launch in 2026. The initiative aims to support startups and innovation in the region.
Mayor Bovenschulte stressed that the government is acting on its commitments. He cited the ongoing restructuring of Gesundheit Nord and the redevelopment of Martinistraße as proof of early progress. Both projects were central to the coalition’s campaign pledges.
The coalition’s first 100 days have seen movement on healthcare, infrastructure and economic policy. The venture capital fund remains on track for a 2026 start, while budget decisions set spending limits for the next two years. Officials say the initial phase has laid the groundwork for longer-term plans.
