100-Year-Old WWII Veteran Gennady Lukanov Celebrates Birthday
Gennady Lukanov, a decorated World War II veteran and former police officer, has celebrated his 100th birthday. Born in Pashigorovo, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Lukanov served in the Red Army and militia for over four decades. He was honoured for his military service and remained active in public life, sharing his happy birthday wishes with younger generations.
Lukanov joined the Red Army at 17 and was wounded in combat in 1943. He returned to active duty in 1944 and completed his service in 1945. His bravery earned him numerous honours, including two Orders of the Patriotic War, Second Class, and the Order of the Red Star.
After demobilization, he joined the militia in 1946. Over the next four decades, Lukanov served in various roles until his retirement in 1984. He remained active in public life, speaking to young people about his wartime experiences. Lukanov also wrote a book of memoirs, 'Of the Great and Unforgettable', dedicated to his family.
On his 100th birthday, Lukanov was congratulated by regional police officials, city council members, and veteran community representatives. Despite his advanced age, he continues to reside in the Moscow region, serving as a living testament to the resilience and courage of his generation.
