12-Year-Old Boy Becomes Assam’s Superintendent of Police for a Day
A 12-year-old boy in Assam briefly took on the role of Superintendent of Police (SP) as part of a special initiative. Nibir Nesan Baruah, a seventh-grade student from Ghotbor in Bajali district, was appointed for a day to mark World Children’s Day. The programme aimed to engage young people with public service and leadership early on.
Nibir’s father had written to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, sharing his son’s wish to experience the role of SP. The request was granted, and Nibir officially took charge at the Bajali SP office. Dressed in a police uniform, he was warmly received by officers.
Nibir’s day as SP concluded with a better understanding of law enforcement and administration. The initiative provided a practical lesson in leadership and public service for a young student. Such programmes continue to inspire children to engage with their communities in meaningful ways.
