128 Orphaned Children in Kamensk-Uralsky Receive Keys to New Homes
On March 12, 128 orphaned children in Kamensk-Uralsky received keys to new apartments. The move marks a major step in a regional program to house vulnerable groups across the Urals. The project, funded by the Sverdlovsk Region Housing Construction Fund, cost 808.8 million rubles ($8.9 million).
The two 16-story buildings provide 256 fully finished one-bedroom apartments, covering 8,300 square meters. Each unit includes modern safety features such as 24/7 surveillance cameras and advanced fire suppression systems. Yevgeny Krizhanovsky, one of the recipients, moved in with his brother and friend, praising the high-quality renovation and practical layout.
The initiative is part of a broader effort in the Sverdlovsk Region. This year alone, over 5 billion rubles ($55 million) have been allocated to house at least 1,134 orphans. In Kamensk-Uralsky, 330 people still await housing, including 208 eligible orphans. Across the wider Kamensk Municipal District, 133 remain on the list, with 95 having reached adulthood and gained the right to an apartment. The program aims to cut the waiting list for subsidized housing in Kamensk-Uralsky to its lowest level in years. Authorities hope the new apartments will provide stability for young people transitioning out of state care.
The project has already delivered homes to dozens of orphans, with hundreds more set to benefit in the coming months. The regional government continues to invest heavily in reducing housing shortages for vulnerable groups. Further updates on allocations will depend on official reports from local authorities.
