13-Year-Old Steals Car, Causes Hit-and-Run Chaos in Dortmund
A 13-year-old driver caused a hit-and-run accident on Erwinstraße in Dortmund on Tuesday evening. The incident, reported at around 6:20 p.m., led to bystanders detaining the underage suspect before police arrived. The minor was later released into the custody of his legal guardians. The young driver had stolen a VW Touran from Schillerstraße earlier that day. After crashing in Schillerstraße, he fled the scene and later caused a second collision on Erwinstraße. Witnesses managed to stop him at the location before officers took him into custody.
The vehicle’s owner retrieved their car at the scene. Police confirmed the boy had no driving licence and was not legally permitted to operate a vehicle. Authorities estimated the total property damage from both accidents at roughly €5,500.
Charges have now been filed for hit-and-run with property damage, unauthorised use of a motor vehicle, and driving without a licence. Investigators are also examining whether the minor may have been involved in similar offences in the past. The 13-year-old was handed over to his guardians following the incident. Police continue to look into the case, focusing on potential prior offences. The investigation remains ongoing, with charges already submitted to prosecutors.
