28 foster children find forever families on National Adoption Day
Dozens of foster children in San Joaquin County have found permanent homes just in time for Thanksgiving. On National Adoption Day, 28 youngsters were officially adopted into 17 families. Among them was 2-year-old Ezra, whose adoption by single mother Alyssa Gutierrez marked the end of a long journey.
Gutierrez first learned about Ezra when she received a call at work shortly after his birth. At just 24 years old, she was asked if she wanted to become his mother—and she agreed without hesitation. The adoption process took two years, but on National Adoption Day, it finally became official.
The adoptions finalised this month mean stability for 28 children before the holidays. Gutierrez and Ezra’s story highlights the long-term commitment required, while officials continue to seek more families for those still waiting. Anyone looking to help can reach out to the county’s adoption services directly.
