31 Tri-State Veterans Honored on Emotional Journey to DC Memorials

Thirty-one veterans from Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri embarked on a poignant journey as part of the 79th mission organised by Great River Honor Flight. The trip, which took place recently, allowed these heroes to visit the nation's capital and pay tribute to their service and sacrifices.

Among the veterans was Ed Brant, an Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. His visit to the Korean War Veterans Memorial held a deeply personal significance, as he sought to find the name of his brother who had passed away. Emmett Monks, a Navy veteran who also served in Vietnam, made a pilgrimage to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, a moving experience for many who served during that era.

The organisation, Great River Honor Flight, has been instrumental in facilitating such trips since its inception in 2009. Over the years, they have sent more than 2,500 veterans from the Tri-State region to Washington, D.C., providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the memorials dedicated to their service. The veterans on this mission visited the Vietnam, Korean War, and World War II memorials around the National Mall, as well as Arlington National Cemetery, where they witnessed the solemn and dignified changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier.

Ed Brant, one of the veterans, expressed his gratitude for the experience and plans to return to Washington for an extended trip to further explore the city and its rich history. The 79th mission by Great River Honor Flight served as a reminder of the organisation's commitment to honouring and supporting the veterans of the Tri-State region.
