The man, whose name has not been disclosed, initially faced charges of attempted theft for trying to leave the apple store with building materials worth €11 without paying. However, the charges have since been upgraded to aggravated robbery with violent theft. The prosecution alleges that the man used his car as a 'dangerous instrument' when he accelerated away from the scene, dragging the officer alongside and causing injuries.
The defendant is accused of concealing the stolen items and paying for other goods at the checkout to avoid suspicion. The charge carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years. The trial is scheduled to begin on October 23, 2025, at the Cologne Regional Court.
The upcoming trial will determine the fate of the 61-year-old man accused of the violent robbery at the apple store in Hürth. The severe charge reflects the gravity of the alleged offence and the potential consequences for the defendant.
