81-Year-Old Rheinberg Volunteer Honored with Germany’s Highest Civilian Award

Reiner Lampe, an 81-year-old retired construction technician from Rheinberg, has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. The honour recognises his six decades of service to local clubs, politics, and cultural heritage. District Administrator Ingo Brohl presented the award on behalf of the German President.

Lampe’s contributions began early, with over 60 years of involvement in Rheinberg’s community life. He helped build the clubhouse of TuS Rheinberg e.V. and later served as a referee, team supervisor, and club official. His dedication earned him honorary membership in 2020.

The Federal Cross of Merit is Germany’s highest civilian award for outstanding service. Lampe’s decades of work in clubs, politics, and heritage preservation have left a lasting mark on Rheinberg. The ceremony highlighted his role as a pillar of the community.
