97 Afghan Families Now in Permanent UK Homes After Resettlement

As of September 2025, 97 Afghan families, eligible through the Afghan Response Route (ARR), reside in permanent Settled Service Family Accommodation (SFA). This follows the UK's commitment to support Afghans who aided British forces in Afghanistan. The resettlement programme provides transitional housing for up to nine months.

Initially, these families were housed in temporary accommodation on the Defence Estate, including transitional SFA and barrack block style accommodation. As of 2023, the exact number of houses specifically bought back from Annington Homes for Afghan resettlement was not available. However, in January 2025, 795 properties were purchased to house Afghans who worked alongside UK troops. These families continue to be supported as part of the UK's resettlement commitments.

The Afghan Resettlement Programme aims to help these families establish roots in the UK and move towards self-sufficiency. The UK government remains dedicated to honouring its promise to Afghans who supported the UK mission.

Currently, 293 ARR eligible persons reside in temporary accommodation on the Defence Estate. The UK government's commitment to supporting Afghan families who aided British forces continues, with 97 families now in permanent SFA. The resettlement programme provides transitional housing and support to help these families integrate into UK society.
