A Family Multifunctional Center Opens in Vorkuta

A new Family Support Center (FSC) has opened in Vorkuta, marking the first of its kind in the Far North of the Republic of Komi. The facility provides a wide range of social services under a single roof, designed to be both high-quality and easily accessible to families in need.

The center officially launched in December 2025, with Yekaterina Kalinina, Deputy Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Republic of Komi, attending the opening. Located within the Vorkuta Comprehensive Social Protection Center, it was established with a 4.8 million ruble grant from the Foundation for Supporting Children in Difficult Life Situations.

The FSC operates as a 'one-stop shop,' offering child development programs, psychological and legal support, and consultations on social benefits. Inside, families can access information and waiting areas, digital service zones, a children’s room, and specialized units for emergency psychological help and crisis response. A key feature is the 'Green Room,' a dedicated space for children who have experienced abuse or violence. The center also includes a rental point for essential items, ensuring families can quickly access necessary supplies. Elena Ivanovna Petrova has been appointed as the director of the new facility. The Vorkuta model follows the success of a similar center in Syktyvkar, which has supported over 2,000 families since its launch. Plans are already in motion to expand the initiative, with another Family Multifunctional Center set to open in Ukhta next year.

The Vorkuta Family Support Center aims to provide comprehensive assistance to families facing challenges. With its specialized services and strategic location, it is expected to become a vital resource for the community. The project also sets the stage for further expansion of similar facilities across the region.
