A citizens’ dialogue at Moritzburg Castle brought together local leaders and residents to discuss key issues facing the region. State Premier Michael Kretschmer and mayoral candidate Marcel Vetter addressed topics ranging from infrastructure projects to upcoming elections.

The event also drew attention to ongoing debates, including opposition to new power lines and plans for renovating Dippelsdorf Pond.

At the gathering, Kretschmer highlighted recent progress in Moritzburg, such as Saxony’s funding for a new riding hall. He also acknowledged concerns over the proposed 380-kV power lines for ESMC’s chip factory in Dresden. Neighbouring Radeburg has joined Moritzburg in opposing the current route, with Kretschmer promising to revisit the issue before any final decisions are made.

Renovation plans for Dippelsdorf Pond were another focus. Both Kretschmer and Freiberg’s mayor, Sven Krüger, confirmed that dredging work would begin in autumn 2026. The discussion further covered wastewater fees and housing development in Moritzburg. Marcel Vetter, a CDU councilor and mayoral candidate, updated attendees on the party’s work in the local council. The town will elect a new mayor on March 22, 2026, following the early retirement of incumbent Jörg Hänisch at 65. Several officials, including state lawmakers Martin Dulig (SPD) and Sven Eppinger (CDU), attended the dialogue.

The meeting provided clarity on several local projects, from the pond’s renovation to the power line dispute. Moritzburg’s upcoming mayoral election will shape the town’s future leadership. Residents now await further updates on infrastructure and development plans.
