Aachen Honors War Victims in Solemn Volkstrauertag Ceremonies This Sunday

On Sunday, November 16, Aachen will hold memorial services to remember victims of both world wars and all those who lost their lives to war and violence. Residents are invited to attend ceremonies across various districts.

The Volkstrauertag commemorative ceremonies will take place at Aachen Forest Cemetery and in the city districts of Brand, Eilendorf, Laurensberg, and Richterich. The ceremony in Aachen-Laurensberg begins at 11:00 AM, featuring a wreath-laying and a memorial service. In Aachen-Eilendorf, local associations will hold a joint vigil at 11:30 AM, followed by a funeral march to Nirmer Straße Cemetery. In Aachen-Brand, the ceremony begins at 11:00 AM, including speeches, a prayer, and musical performances. At Aachen Forest Cemetery, the ceremony starts at 10:30 AM, featuring speeches, musical accompaniment, and a wreath-laying. In Aachen-Richterich, the official ceremony starts at 11:00 AM, featuring performances by local associations and choirs. Notably, the pastoral councilor of the German Armed Forces who delivers a speech at the Aachen Waldfriedhof memorial remains unspecified in public sources.
