Aachen’s new city council reshapes committees after 2025 elections

Aachen's city council held its first meeting post-local elections on September 14, 2025. The gathering saw significant changes, including committee mergers and new chairmanships. The Lord Mayor will now helm the merged Main and Finance Committee, comprising 15 members plus the Lord Mayor.

The Green Party secured six committee chairs, with voting members distributed as follows: Mobility (17), Environment (17), Sports (15), Education (15), Audit (15), and Building Management (15). The CDU leads seven committees: Planning (17), Citizens' Forum (15), Digitalization (15), Cultural (17), Eurogress (15), Personnel (15), and Electoral Review (15). The Left Party chairs the Social Affairs and Demography Committee with 17 members.

The SPD heads three committees: Housing, Aachen Municipal Services, Labor, Economy, Science, and Regional Development, each with 15 voting members. The Children and Youth Committee will elect its chair at a later date, with no information yet on the upcoming Children and Youth Commission elections.
