Aargau restores funding for Child and Youth Welfare Act after public outcry
The Aargau Grand Council has reversed its decision to cut funding for the Child and Youth Welfare Act. Lawmakers voted 93 to 43 to restore the budget, following pressure from opposition parties and public support. The move allows the cantonal government to resume work on the project immediately.
The funding cut was first proposed by the FDP to save 800,000 Swiss francs. Opposition parties, including the Centre, SP, Greens, GLP, and EVP, responded by submitting a motion to revisit the decision. An online petition with 8,240 signatures was also presented to parliament, urging lawmakers to preserve the law.
With the funding restored, the Child and Youth Welfare Act will proceed as planned. The decision ensures continued support for youth services in the canton. The Grand Council’s vote reflects broad political and public backing for the initiative.
