Accident at the Maschener Kreuz: Driver of a camper van seriously injured
A 68-year-old man from Bremen suffered serious injuries in a crash at the Maschen interchange on Monday. The accident involved a motorhome and a truck, forcing the closure of a key motorway ramp during recovery efforts.
The incident began when the driver lost control of his motorhome while merging from the A1 onto the A39 towards Lüneburg. The vehicle collided with a truck already travelling on the A39 in the same direction. The force of the impact caused the motorhome to tip onto its side, briefly trapping the man inside.
Emergency crews rushed the seriously injured driver to Winsen Hospital for treatment. The motorhome sustained severe damage and had to be towed from the scene. Meanwhile, the ramp from the A1 to the A39 remained completely closed as authorities investigated the cause of the crash. Police are now examining why the driver lost control of the motorhome. The truck driver involved in the collision has not been identified.
The accident disrupted traffic for hours while investigators worked at the scene. The injured man remains in hospital, and the damaged motorhome was removed from the motorway. Authorities continue to probe the circumstances leading to the crash.
