Accomplished significant merits in voluntary service

Günther Bergan has received the Ludwigsburg Pin for his decades of voluntary work in the city. The award recognises his nearly 30 years of dedication to local history and cultural organisations. Mayor Dr. Matthias Knecht presented the honour at a recent ceremony.

Bergan first began volunteering in 1995 at the Ludwigsburg City Library. His commitment soon extended to the Ludwigsburg City Archives, where he has remained active ever since. Over the years, he has contributed to numerous publications on local history and written articles for regional newspapers and journals.

Beyond his research, Bergan has supported guided tours and public lectures at the archives. His involvement also reaches other cultural groups, including the Art Association, the Swabian Homeland Federation, and the city’s Department of Arts and Culture. All of this work has been carried out on a voluntary basis. Born in 1939, Bergan was originally a businessman and long-serving CDU politician in Bad Homburg. There, he built a technical trading company and served as a city councillor. His voluntary roles included local clubs, church committees, and charitable foundations, as well as oversight boards for cultural and sports organisations.

The Ludwigsburg Pin is given to individuals who make exceptional contributions to the city. Bergan’s long-standing efforts in preserving local history and supporting cultural life have earned him this recognition. His work continues to benefit both the archives and the wider community.
