The National Composites Centre (NCC) has recently made a significant stride in the realm of high-value manufacturing, announcing its adoption of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform by Dassault Systèmes. This groundbreaking move is part of the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult network, with the platform being deployed on the cloud.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform, a versatile digital platform, is now being utilised by the NCC across multiple innovation centres. This decision, announced by Dassault Systèmes, aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and efficiency within the NCC's operations.

In addition to this, the NCC has also integrated a cutting-edge epoxy resin system into its operations. Freudenberg Performance Materials developed the PRISM EP2400, a one-part, low reactive system, suitable for global shipping by sea, land, or air. This system, recently added to the NCAMP database, offers benefits such as a long and stable pot life for large or complex structure infusions, and is toughened and damage tolerant, making it suitable for high-performance applications.

The qualification of PRISM EP2400 by the FAA-sponsored NCAMP at Wichita State University has filled a gap in public NCAMP allowables for OEMs seeking validated out-of-autoclave (OoA) resin infusion solutions. This qualification is recognised by both the FAA and EASA and is formalised under material specification NMS 241 and process specification NPS 82401. The full documentation package for PRISM EP2400 is publicly available via NCAMP at Wichita State University.

Moreover, PRISM EP2400 is a low viscosity system, enabling robust and repeatable resin transfer processing. This low viscosity property, combined with its toughness and damage tolerance, makes it an ideal choice for high-performance applications.

The adoption of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the integration of PRISM EP2400 epoxy resin system by the NCC signify a commitment to innovation and efficiency in the UK's high-value manufacturing sector. This move is expected to have far-reaching implications, as the NCC extends the use of these advanced technologies to other innovation centres within the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult network.
