ACPS Launches Poll to Name Campus Spaces After Community Icons
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has launched a poll, inviting residents to vote on proposals to name four campus spaces after significant community contributors. The poll is open until Oct. 22 and aims to gather community input to inform final decisions by the College Board.
The proposals include naming the Jean B. Reid Media Center at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary after reading specialist Jean B. Reid. The Minnie Howard Campus's athletic field complex is set to honor former Alexandria mayor Kerry Donley. Owen's Place at the Early Childhood Center is proposed to honor the late Owen Michael Wagner, while Keith Burns Field at Parker-Gray Stadium is suggested to honor former NFL linebacker Keith Burns. More information about each proposed honoree is available on ACPS' Identity Project webpage. Community members can also provide feedback and suggest alternative recommendations through the brief poll.
The School Board will use the community input to make final decisions on the naming proposals, following School Board Policy FFA and Regulation FFA-R. If you wish to know who initiated the poll or need specific information, contact Alexandria City Public Schools directly.
