Activists Protest Mercosur Agreement and Current Food System in Bremen

Environmental, climate, and agricultural organizations are joining forces in Bremen this Saturday to protest against the Mercosur agreement and the current food system. The demonstration, supported by 'Disrupt. Food System' activists, aims to raise awareness about the impacts of these systems on exploitation, environmental destruction, and inequality.

The protest is part of a larger international coalition against the logistics empire, with planned actions in Belgium, Germany, France, and the Netherlands from Friday to Sunday. In Bremen, the protest camp includes workshops on the history of feed imports, resistance against the deepening of the Weser, and visions of a just agriculture. Meanwhile, in Brake, one of the largest free-standing warehouses on the continent stores soy from South America and the USA, highlighting the consequences of the Mercosur agreement, which includes deforestation, monocultures, factory farming, and human rights violations. The port in Brake, Germany's most important import harbor for animal feed, handles over three million tons per year. Activists plan acts of civil disobedience, such as a bike tour to Brake seaport and an informative harbor tour by BUND.

The demonstration in Bremen is a call to action against the Mercosur agreement and the current food system. It is part of a broader international movement targeting the logistics industry, with planned actions in multiple countries. The protest seeks to raise awareness about the impacts of these systems on the environment and society, and to promote a more just and sustainable agriculture.
