The officers appear to be in the midst of a protest, likely in response to the German government's decision to ban the use of anti-terror measures.

AfD event in Delmenhorst disrupted by locked doors and protests

An AfD citizen dialogue event took place at Delmenhorst’s Markthalle on the evening of Thursday, February 12, 2026. Before it began, the venue’s main entrance was locked from the outside using bicycle locks. Meanwhile, a counter-protest formed nearby as police monitored both gatherings to maintain order. The event, organised by the AfD’s Lower Saxony branch, drew attention before it even started. Someone secured the Markthalle’s main doors with bicycle locks, preventing easy access. Despite this, the AfD’s programme proceeded inside as planned.

Outside, around 150 demonstrators gathered to protest the event. Their rally ran from 5:00 PM to about 7:00 PM, ending on schedule. Delmenhorst police, supported by officers from Oldenburg’s riot unit, kept watch over both the AfD event and the opposing demonstration. No major disruptions occurred during either gathering. The AfD’s citizen dialogue wrapped up at roughly 9:30 PM, with no reports of serious incidents from either side.

The evening passed without significant conflict, as both the AfD event and the protest concluded peacefully. Police presence ensured order, and the locked doors at the Markthalle did not escalate into wider confrontation. All scheduled activities finished as planned by late evening.
