Number of disciplinary actions in parliament significantly increased - AfD Faces 24 of 29 Disciplinary Measures in Saxony-Anhalt Parliament
The Saxony-Anhalt parliament has witnessed a significant rise in disciplinary measures during the current legislative period. Of the 29 measures issued, the majority targeted members of the AfD party, sparking debates about fairness and repeated taboo-breaking.
AfD members have faced 24 of the 29 disciplinary actions, including being called to order, excluded from sessions, or fined. This increase contrasts with the previous period (2016-2021), which saw only 17 measures against AfD and one against the SPD. Notably, no disciplinary fines were issued when the AfD was not in the parliament.
The AfD faction has voiced complaints of unfair treatment, while other factions accuse them of repeatedly breaking taboos. In Bavaria, an AfD member was fined €1,000 for using the Nazi term 'Endsieg'. In Saxony-Anhalt, the SPD faction has proposed introducing disciplinary fines, but none have been imposed yet.
The sharp increase in disciplinary measures in the Saxony-Anhalt parliament, predominantly against AfD members, has raised concerns about fairness and respect for parliamentary norms. As the legislative period continues, all factions must strive for a more constructive and respectful environment.
