AfD hardens stance against Mercosur trade deal in new vote

The AfD parliamentary group has once again taken a firm stance against the proposed Mercosur trade deal. In a recent vote, members approved a motion to reject the agreement with South American nations. The decision follows years of opposition from the faction, though internal disagreements over strategy emerged during discussions.

The AfD has long resisted the Mercosur free trade agreement. Previous legislative terms saw repeated motions from the faction opposing the deal. This time, however, a counter-proposal by MP Leif-Erik Holm sought to pause new anti-Mercosur motions temporarily. His suggestion was rejected.

The AfD’s latest vote reinforces its opposition to the Mercosur agreement. The faction remains divided on tactics but united in its call for stricter trade conditions. The decision keeps pressure on policymakers to address concerns over unequal standards in international deals.
