AfD Raises Alarm on Rise in Student Violence in Brandenburg Schools
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) faction has raised concerns about a rise in violence and crimes among students with a migration background in Brandenburg's schools. The faction wants to discuss this issue in the education and legal affairs committee and has launched a portal to investigate incidents.
In 2023, there were 3,209 offenses at Brandenburg's schools, a decrease of 156 from the previous year. However, the AfD faction argues that many incidents are going unreported. The number of bodily harm offenses increased by 131 to 1,113 in 2024 compared to the previous year. The AfD believes that authorities are turning a blind eye to these incidents.
The AfD faction has launched a portal on its website to gather information. Affected individuals can describe cases and upload videos or audio documents. Lena Kotré, the AfD faction's interior policy spokeswoman, stated that right-wing extremism in schools is a myth and the focus should be on violence caused by students with a migration background. Dennis Hohloch, the AfD faction's parliamentary business manager, expressed concern for the safety of German children attending German schools.
The AfD faction's portal aims to shed light on the alleged increase in violence at Brandenburg's schools. The faction wants to discuss this issue in the education and legal affairs committee and change the situation, as it believes many incidents are being covered up.
