1,000 People Demonstrate Against AfD - AfD’s Bad Dürkheim rally draws fewer supporters than protesters ahead of state vote
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) held a campaign rally in Bad Dürkheim ahead of the upcoming state election. Around 600 supporters gathered in the Salierhalle to hear co-leader Alice Weidel speak. Meanwhile, a larger crowd of protesters assembled outside to voice opposition to the party’s main event.
The day began with a 'Marketplace of Democracy', an open event leading into the rally. Organisers had announced that both AfD co-chairs, Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, would attend. However, Chrupalla did not appear, despite his presence at the party’s event kickoff the night before in Idar-Oberstein.
Inside the Salierhalle, roughly 600 people listened to Weidel’s speech. Outside, the protest drew significantly more participants—about 1,000 demonstrators gathered peacefully. The rally against the AfD was organised under the banners 'Action Alliance for Diversity and Tolerance' and 'The Palatinate Stays Colorful'. The AfD’s event followed a similar format to their previous campaign stops. Weidel addressed supporters while protesters maintained a visible but orderly presence nearby.
The Bad Dürkheim rally saw fewer attendees than demonstrators, highlighting the local opposition to the AfD’s campaign. With Chrupalla absent, Weidel remained the sole co-chair present at the event. The protest remained peaceful, reflecting organised resistance ahead of the state election.
