AfD's Jürgen Meywirth eyes Isenbüttel mayoral seat with efficiency-driven campaign

The AfD has chosen Jürgen Meywirth as its candidate for the upcoming mayoral election in Isenbüttel. The vote, scheduled for September, will decide the next leader of the Lower Saxony municipality. Meywirth, a quality management specialist, is also running for seats on the local municipal association council and the Gifhorn district council.

Meywirth has spent years working in industrial quality management, most recently for an automotive corporation. His career includes engineering roles across various firms, where he focused on efficiency and process improvement. Now, he plans to apply that experience to local government.

Isenbüttel's political scene has seen little change in recent years. The CDU has held a strong majority, winning around 50–55% of votes in the 2021 local elections. Meanwhile, the AfD has remained a minor force, securing less than 5% in municipal polls and under 4% in regional elections. If elected, Meywirth wants to streamline administration and invest in the future of children. His priorities include renovating schools and modernising local services. He argues that his industrial background will help make government operations more effective.

The September election will determine whether Meywirth becomes Isenbüttel's next mayor. His campaign centres on efficiency and youth-focused policies, drawing on his professional experience. The AfD's nomination marks its latest attempt to gain ground in a region where the party has so far struggled.
