AfD’s leadership vote in Erfurt may extend Chrupalla-Weidel duo’s reign
The AfD’s federal party conference will take place in Erfurt on July 4 and 5. Delegates will vote on a new national executive board, including the role of co-chair. So far, no candidates other than the current leaders have been officially named for the top position.
Tino Chrupalla has confirmed he will stand again as co-leader alongside Alice Weidel. He described their dual leadership as successful, built on strong trust and cooperation. The pair have led the party together for several years.
The conference comes as the AfD prepares to re-elect its entire national executive board. While internal debates have surfaced in regional branches, such as Saxony-Anhalt, the federal leadership race remains focused on the existing co-chairs. No additional candidates have emerged for the co-chair role, according to available reports. The event in Erfurt will determine whether Chrupalla and Weidel continue in their positions or if new contenders step forward.
The outcome of the vote will shape the AfD’s leadership for the coming term. Delegates will decide on the executive board’s future direction during the two-day gathering. The party has not yet released further details on potential challengers or additional nominees.
