Afghan Women’s Art Defies Oppression in New German Exhibition
A new exhibition titled Hope in Darkness has opened at the Bergisch Gladbach Adult Education Center. The showcase features powerful artworks created by Afghan women living under Taliban rule. Organisers aim to highlight their struggles, emotions, and calls for change through personal expressions.
The exhibition launched on November 26, 2025, with a keynote speech by Lailoma Nemani, former Deputy Director of Afghanistan’s Department of Women’s Affairs. She urged visitors to reflect on the daily hardships faced by Afghan women and stressed the importance of solidarity and amplifying their voices.
The exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the lives of Afghan women through their own creative voices. Visitors can explore the artwork until mid-January, with organisers hoping the event will raise awareness and foster support for their cause. The project stands as a testament to resilience and the power of artistic expression under oppression.
