The Philadelphia Zoo is set to make history on April 23, as they publicly debut the world's oldest documented mother of Western Santa Cruz Galápagos tortoises and her hatchlings. This momentous occasion marks the 93rd anniversary of Mommy's arrival at the zoo and the first time ever that Galápagos tortoise hatchlings have been born in the Zoo's 150-year history.

Mommy, who is around 97 years old, has made history by becoming the oldest documented member of her species to become a mother. Along with her partner Abrazzo, also around 96 years old, the couple has successfully hatched at least seven hatchlings, four female and three male, since November 2021 [2][3][4].
