Ahmedabad Departure of IndiGo Flight Halted Mid-Takeoff Due to Technical Malfunction

In a significant incident on July 23rd, 2025, IndiGo flight 6E7966 from Ahmedabad to Diu was forced to abort takeoff due to a technical malfunction on its ATR 72-600 aircraft. The flight, carrying 60 passengers, was about to depart from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport when the pilot noticed abnormal indications from the aircraft's right engine, prompting an immediate Mayday call.

The situation escalated quickly, with emergency personnel arriving swiftly at the scene. Passengers were safely evacuated using emergency slides, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident occurred just before 11 am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, fire brigades, medical teams, and airport officials were deployed along the runway in anticipation of a potentially hazardous landing for another IndiGo flight, 6E 813, which touched down safely at 5:08 p.m. on the same day, with all 140 passengers and crew members reported unharmed.

This incident marks the third technical issue faced by IndiGo in recent days, causing concern and prompting a formal investigation by India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The DGCA is conducting a broader inquiry into the recent technical issues faced by Indian airlines to determine the causes.

IndiGo has publicly stated its commitment to rigorous standard operating procedures, ensuring no aircraft operates until maintenance clearance is given. Passengers affected by these incidents have been offered refunds or alternative travel options.

In response to the technical snags, IndiGo has implemented several safety measures. These include immediate action by flight crews on detection of technical snags, prompt evacuation of passengers following standard emergency protocols, thorough maintenance and safety checks on affected aircraft before clearance for further flights, collaboration with airport emergency services for swift response, full cooperation with DGCA investigations, and transparent communication to passengers about refunds and rebooking options.

These recent events have led to reinforced operational vigilance focusing on fleet maintenance and safety compliance, aiming to restore confidence and prevent recurrence. The airline is working diligently to ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers and to maintain its reputation for reliable service.
