AIIMS Bhopal targets long patient waits with urgent reforms
A high-level meeting at AIIMS Bhopal on Thursday aimed to tackle long patient waiting times and improve healthcare services. Senior officials, including Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Mahapatra and Prof. (Dr.) Madhabananda Kar, led discussions on making treatment more accessible and efficient for all patients.
The gathering focused on key issues affecting patient care. Currently, OPD appointments take weeks, while MRI scans face delays of three to four months. Even CT scans require a two-month wait, and general consultations can stretch to three or four days. Many patients, particularly those travelling from distant areas, struggle to access timely treatment and often turn to costly private alternatives.
The decisions taken aim to cut delays in diagnostics, consultations, and treatments. By improving efficiency and expanding resources, AIIMS Bhopal expects to ease the burden on patients who currently face lengthy waits. The changes will also help retain those who might otherwise seek care at private centres.
