Let's Dish It Out:

Get ready, folks, as we're heading to Massachusetts' Hanscom Air Force Base – it's in the running to host the Air Force's shiny new Information Dominance Systems Center! This center will be responsible for procuring battle management systems, cyber and electronic weapons, and more.

It's likely that the Air Force made Hanscom the sole candidate location back on November 15, and they plan to make a final decision by the end of the year. With approximately 136 positions up for grabs, this new center was first announced in February as part of the Department of the Air Force's "re-optimization" for Great Power Competition.

The Information Dominance Systems Center will sit neatly under the Air Force Materiel Command, focusing on the acquisition of info systems, a crucial capability often overlooked or undervalued. Interestingly, the center will be led by Maj. Gen. Luke C.G. Cropsey, who is currently the PEO for command, control, and communications/battle management.

So, why Hanscom AFB, you ask? Well, it makes perfect sense since the base already plays host to Cropsey's C3/BM program office, as well as the program offices for Cyber & Networks and Electronic Systems, all of which will transition from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center to the Information Dominance Systems Center. The only program office that will not be based at Hanscom is PEO Business Enterprise Systems, which is spread across various bases in Alabama, Texas, and Ohio.

Air Force leaders mentioned earlier this year that they want to keep costs and personnel relocations to a minimum. By setting up the Information Dominance Systems Center at Hanscom, it appears they're staying true to their word and aiming to have the center up and running by mid- to late-2025.

Once it's all set up, the Information Dominance Systems Center will become the Air Force Materiel Command's seventh center, joining the likes of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Test Center, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (which will become the Air Dominance Systems Center), Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (which will become the Nuclear Systems Center), Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, and the Air Force Sustainment Center.

[1] It's worth noting that as of my current knowledge, there isn't any specific information available about the expected stand-up date for the Information Dominance Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base. You can keep an eye on official Air Force sources or contact them directly for more information.

  1. The Information Dominance Systems Center, responsible for procuring battle management systems, cyber and electronic weapons, and more, is anticipated to leverage the aerospace technology and cybersecurity expertise of the industry in its warfare strategies.
  2. Given the center's focus on critical information systems, it's evident that finance will play a significant role in funding and sustaining the development of advanced technology for this new center.
  3. With the Air Force aiming to reduce costs and personnel relocations, the chosen technology for the Information Dominance Systems Center must be efficient and scalable, ensuring minimum disruptions during its transition.
  4. As the Information Dominance Systems Center joins other centers under the Air Force Materiel Command, it will be essential to maintain a modern IT infrastructure that accommodates the ever-evolving landscape of warfare and technology.
