STAT MedEvac Introduces Airbus H140 Helicopters for Emergency Medical Services
STAT MedEvac, a leading air medical operator based in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, has integrated the Airbus H140 helicopter into its emergency medical services (EMS) fleet. This marks one of the first adoptions of the new model, announced in March 2025.
STAT MedEvac signed an agreement with Airbus Helicopters for up to three H140 helicopters, specifically tailored for EMS missions. The helicopters, which offer improved performance, cost-effectiveness, and passenger and crew comfort, were unveiled publicly at the VERTICON vertical lift industry show in Dallas, Texas.
Key features of the H140 suited for EMS include airframe and avionics enhancements designed to optimize operational performance, safety, and patient care. The helicopter’s multimission capability and modern technology make it well-suited for rapid medical response and transport.
The H140's large sliding doors facilitate access to the cabin, and its design includes large clamshell doors and a high tail boom, which facilitate the use of different types of stretcher systems and transport incubators. The helicopter also features a new T-shaped tail boom, an optimized Fenestron, a five-blade bearingless main rotor, and new Safran engines.
STAT MedEvac, a clinical arm for the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, has been an Airbus customer for 40 years, having flown Airbus helicopters since commencing operations in 1985. The company is the largest single branded, non-profit medical transport system in the Eastern United States.
Bart Reijnen, President of Airbus Helicopters in the U.S. and Head of the North America region, expressed excitement about watching STAT MedEvac's H140s take to the skies. He stated that Airbus is honored to continue working with STAT MedEvac. Jim Houser, CEO of STAT MedEvac, said that STAT MedEvac is focused on finding new and improved ways to positively impact patients and communities. He also expressed pride in partnering with Airbus on this project.
The entry into service of the H140 for the emergency medical services segment is planned in 2028. The H140 helicopters will perform life-saving missions across the northeastern U.S. The impact of integrating the H140 into STAT MedEvac’s fleet is expected to be significant. By deploying these technologically advanced helicopters, STAT MedEvac can enhance their emergency medical transport capacity, providing faster, safer, and more efficient service to critically ill or injured patients.
