Airbus and STAT MedEvac ink deal for potential acquisition of three H140 choppers
STAT MedEvac Orders Next-Generation Airbus H140 Helicopters for EMS in Northeastern U.S.
STAT MedEvac, the largest single branded, non-profit medical transport system in the Eastern United States, has placed an order for up to three Airbus H140 helicopters for use in emergency medical services (EMS) in the northeastern U.S. The agreement was announced in March 2025.
The H140 helicopters are part of a next-generation light twin-engine helicopter series, featuring five-blade main rotors, twin Safran Arrius 2E engines (700 shp each), and the Helionix avionics suite. This modern fleet upgrade is expected to enhance STAT MedEvac’s emergency response capabilities through improved speed, reliability, and technology integration.
The new H140 helicopter, unveiled at the vertical lift industry show VERTICON in Dallas, Texas earlier in 2025, is designed to offer improved performance, cost-effectiveness, and passenger and crew comfort in the light twin-engined category. The H140's design includes large windows and is accessibility-friendly, with large clamshell doors and a high tail boom for rear loading capabilities.
STAT MedEvac, an air medical operator based in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, has ordered two H140 helicopters, with an option for one additional helicopter. Jim Houser, CEO of STAT MedEvac, stated that the company is proud to partner with Airbus on this new project and aims to find new and improved ways to positively impact the patients and communities they serve.
Airbus Helicopters is honored to continue working with STAT MedEvac, a long-standing partner, as they incorporate the H140 into their fleet. Bart Reijnen, President of Airbus Helicopters in the U.S. and Head of the North America region, expressed his excitement for the collaboration and looks forward to watching the H140s perform life-saving missions across the northeastern U.S.
The entry into service of the H140 for the emergency medical services segment is planned in 2028. The H140 helicopters ordered by STAT MedEvac are among the first for the new model. The H140 is equipped with a five-blade bearingless main rotor and uses new powerful Safran engines. The H140 helicopter is a model produced by Airbus Helicopters and features a new T-shaped tail boom with an optimized Fenestron that reduces sound levels.
The H140 helicopter is a 3-tonne class rotorcraft that can serve the emergency medical services, passenger transport, and private and business aviation markets. The larger cabin space and optimized cabin layout can accommodate up to six passengers comfortably. The timeline places these aircraft as newly unveiled models in 2025, with initial deliveries expected in 2025 or shortly thereafter, supporting imminent fleet renewal and expansion efforts by STAT MedEvac in the northeastern region.
This strategic enhancement of their EMS fleet aligns with broader trends in EMS to utilize aircraft with advanced avionics and better performance metrics to improve patient outcomes during medical transport. The addition of the advanced H140 helicopters is expected to significantly improve STAT MedEvac’s emergency response capabilities in the northeastern United States.
The strategic enhancement of STAT MedEvac's EMS fleet, as they incorporate the advanced H140 helicopters, signifies a significant investment in the realm of technology for their operations. With the addition of these helicopters, the company aims to improve its emergency response capabilities, not just in the EMS segment, but potentially across various sectors such as finance, aerospace, and technology, as they strive to positively impact the communities they serve.
The new H140 helicopters, equipped with innovative avionics and superior performance metrics, reflect the cutting-edge finance and engineering within the industry that Airbus Helicopters has to offer, making these helicopters a valuable asset for companies like STAT MedEvac in the ever-evolving world of aerospace technology.
