Airbus announces Jürgen Westermeier as President and Managing Director for its operations in India and the South Asia region.

Airbus, the global aerospace giant, has appointed Jürgen Westermeier as the President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, effective September 1, 2025. In this new role, Westermeier will oversee the company's operations across multiple divisions, including Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space, and Helicopters in the region.

Westermeier succeeds Rémi Maillard, who will become Executive Vice-President Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology at Airbus.

In his new position, Westermeier will be responsible for managing commercial aircraft sales and expanding Airbus' footprint in India and South Asia through services, engineering, digital innovation, and training. He will also consolidate Airbus' presence in the growing Indian aviation market, which is expected to become the world’s third-largest aviation market.

One of Westermeier's key objectives will be to drive Airbus’ commitment to the “Make in India” initiative by aligning company campaigns to support local manufacturing and integration into Airbus’ global supply chain. This move is aimed at deepening the company’s engagement and manufacturing presence in the region.

Before joining Airbus, Westermeier started his career at BMW in 1998. He held strategic positions across Information Services, Motorcycles Purchasing, Quality Management, Supplier Network, and Cost Engineering. In 2020, he joined Airbus as the Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer. During his tenure, he managed procurement across all Airbus divisions, developed strong supplier partnerships, and enhanced procurement processes.

Westermeier holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. He brings over two decades of leadership experience to his new role at Airbus.

With Westermeier at the helm, Airbus is poised to lead and expand its business in India and South Asia, strengthening its commercial aircraft sales and aerospace ecosystem, and advancing the "Make in India" strategy to deepen the company's engagement and manufacturing presence in the region.

  1. In his new role, Westermeier will focus on financially successful operations by managing commercial aircraft sales, consolidating Airbus' presence in the growing Indian aviation market, and deepening engagement through services, engineering, digital innovation, and training.
  2. As the President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, Westermeier will spearhead the industry's efforts to support local manufacturing and integration into Airbus’ global supply chain, in alignment with the “Make in India” initiative, further establishing Airbus' dominance in the aerospace sector.
