Airbus' Commercial Aircraft division set to welcome Lars Wagner as its new CEO starting from January 1, 2026.

In a significant move, Airbus has announced that Lars Wagner will be taking over as CEO of its Commercial Aircraft business from Christian Scherer, effective from 1st January 2026. The announcement was made in Toulouse, France, on 10th July 2025.

Scherer, who has spent over 40 years with Airbus, will remain in his role until 31st December 2025 to ensure a smooth transition. He has held several executive roles within the company and has played a crucial part in Airbus' success.

Wagner, who currently serves as the CEO of MTU Aero Engines AG, will join the Airbus Executive Committee with his transition. He will start working for Airbus from the beginning of November 2025.

Wagner's career at Airbus spans across various locations, including Bremen, Hamburg, and Toulouse. Prior to joining MTU in 2015, he held management positions at these key Airbus sites. At MTU, Wagner started as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President responsible for OEM operations before becoming CEO in January 2023.

Wagner holds a degree in mechanical and aeronautical engineering as well as an MBA, which complements his strong technical and strategic background. He joined MTU Aero Engines AG in 2015 and has been its CEO since January 2023.

Lars Wagner will succeed Christian Scherer as CEO of Airbus' Commercial Aircraft business on 1st January 2026. The effective date for his new role was announced on 10th July 2025.
