Airbus Commercial opts for Altair SimSolid in their ZEROe sustainable hydrogen plane project
Airbus, the global aviation leader, has chosen Altair's SimSolid simulation technology for its ZEROe sustainable hydrogen aircraft project. This move reinforces Altair's position as a pioneer in worldwide sustainability initiatives.
The ZEROe project, Airbus Commercial's global initiative, aims to create the world's first zero-emission commercial aircraft fleet powered by hydrogen. With this ambitious goal, Airbus is exploring various configurations and hydrogen technologies for future zero-emission aircraft development.
Airbus teams can now explore more design possibilities in a simple environment, thanks to Altair SimSolid. This technology performs structural analyses on fully featured CAD assemblies within minutes, expediting project management timelines and delivering sustainable innovations quicker.
According to Christophe Brand, head of airframe methods and tools at Airbus Commercial, "Altair SimSolid eliminates time-consuming, expertise-extensive, and error-prone tasks in conventional structural simulations." He further added that the technology's intuitive, easy-to-implement operations and interface allow users to work without needing to clean geometry or prepare models beforehand.
The selection of Altair SimSolid also marks a significant step forward for Airbus in reducing delivery times. By using this technology, Airbus can build better products more efficiently. Altair SimSolid will save Airbus' design and engineering teams time, money, and hassle by reducing elementary part analysis delivery times from days to minutes and complex assembly delivery times from several months to less than one week in some cases.
Sam Mahalingam, chief technology officer of Altair, stated that the use of Altair SimSolid in Airbus' ZEROe project will help the design and engineering teams expedite project management timelines and deliver sustainable innovations quicker.
Airbus and Altair have a long and fruitful history of successful collaboration. This partnership continues to strengthen with the implementation of Altair SimSolid in Airbus' ZEROe sustainability project for the construction of low-carbon aircraft.
Airbus is targeting a mature technology readiness level for a hydrogen-combustion propulsion system by 2025. With the help of Altair's SimSolid technology, Airbus is one step closer to achieving this goal and creating a more sustainable future for aviation.
