Airbus Helicopters Shines at 2024 Heli-Expo

Airbus Helicopters made a strong showing at the 2024 Heli-Expo, with significant business activity, new helicopter model unveilings, and important partnerships.

The European aircraft manufacturer reported a total of 455 gross orders (net 450), reflecting steady market growth across light, light twin-engine, and heavy helicopter segments. These orders were placed by 182 customers in 42 countries, contributing to a 10% increase in unit sales for the second consecutive year, with 361 helicopters delivered in total.

In the emergency medical services (EMS) sector, Airbus Helicopters secured a notable contract with THC, supplying 8 H125s and 10 H145s. HealthNet Aeromedical Services also added four H135s to its all-Airbus fleet.

Airbus unveiled the new H140 helicopter at the VERTICON vertical lift industry show, held shortly before Heli-Expo. Launch customers for the H140 include ÖAMTC Flugrettung (Austrian EMS) and Global Medical Response (GMR), which together signed agreements for up to 20 H140s. The H140 is positioned as a multi-mission light twin-engine helicopter with enhanced performance, cost-effectiveness, and comfort.

Significant military and government orders include 58 Super Puma helicopters for customers such as the German Bundespolizei, Japan Coast Guard, Dutch Ministry of Defence, and Romanian Ministry of National Defence. The NH90 program advanced with new upgrades and delivery milestones, while H145 and H145M models gained new defense clients including the Brunei Air Force, Belgian Ministry of Defence, and Bahraini Police Aviation Command.

Airbus also announced a contract for 19 H135 helicopters to train military pilots in Canada via a joint venture with SkyAlyne. The company is involved in cutting-edge development collaborations, notably with GE Aerospace aiming to develop next-generation helicopter propulsion systems.

In addition, Airbus Helicopters secured 155 commitments, including 40 firm orders, at the 2024 Heli-Expo. The company also announced two partnerships with LCI to explore the advanced air mobility market and address long-term capacity, sustainability, and financing requirements of the industry.

Lastly, THC signed a historic contract with Airbus Helicopters for up to 120 helicopters, with a firm order for 8 H125s and 10 H145s. In 2023, Airbus Helicopters' global fleet achieved 3 million flight hours.

At the 2024 Heli-Expo, Airbus Helicopters demonstrated their robust sales performance, strategic partnerships for EMS and defense applications, and commitment to introducing advanced helicopter models and technologies across global markets.
