Airbus officially unveils the twin-engine H140 aircraft as part of its expanded lineup
New Airbus Helicopters H140 Debuts at VERTICON Show
The Airbus Helicopters H140, a new entrant in the light twin-engine helicopter market, was unveiled at the VERTICON show in Dallas, Texas, in 2025. This modern aircraft, with a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 3 tonnes, is designed for multi-role applications including emergency medical services (EMS), passenger transport, and business aviation.
The H140 boasts several notable features. It comes equipped with a new T-shaped tail boom and an optimized Fenestron, which reduces sound levels and a five-blade bearingless main rotor. This design simplifies maintenance, improves serviceability, and enhances passenger and crew comfort.
The H140 is also equipped with the Helionix system, an advanced avionic suite that includes a 4-axis autopilot and an innovative cockpit layout to enhance situational awareness. This system, which is also found in the H135, H145, H160, and H175, reduces the pilot workload and increases safety during the mission.
The H140's cabin is spacious, with large windows and an optimized layout that can accommodate up to six passengers comfortably. The aircraft is designed to be competitive in the light twin helicopter market segment, focusing on versatility, cabin comfort, and reliability for demanding operational environments.
The H140 will be powered by the Safran Arrius 2E 700 shp engine, offering the best payload/range in its class. The aircraft's rear loading capabilities allow the use of different types of stretcher systems, including intensive care ones and transport incubators.
The entry into service for the emergency medical services segment is planned for 2028, and the H140 will have four dedicated prototypes. The first aircraft is already being flight tested at the company's site in Donauwörth.
Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters, stated that the H140 is a testament to their commitment to meeting customers' evolving mission requirements. Additional images and footage of the H140 are available via a provided link. The H140's operating and maintenance costs are reduced due to the optimized maintenance plan, which harmonizes airframe and engine maintenance schedules, allowing longer intervals between inspections.
In summary, the Airbus H140 is a versatile and modern aircraft, designed to meet the needs of various markets, including EMS, passenger transport, and business aviation. With its advanced design features and focus on cabin comfort, reliability, and efficiency, the H140 is set to become a valuable addition to Airbus Helicopters' light twin helicopter portfolio.
The new Airbus H140 is poised to make its mark in multiple industries, including finance, technology, and the aerospace sector. Its reduced operating and maintenance costs, thanks to an optimized maintenance plan, will appeal to investors and operators seeking profitability and efficiency. Furthermore, its innovative Helionix system, found in various Airbus helicopter models, will attract technology enthusiasts and those seeking advanced avionics for improved safety and situational awareness.
