In a significant move for the Turkish aviation industry, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS or TAI) and Airbus have signed a partnership agreement for the export of Turkey's supersonic jet trainer, the Hürjet. The collaboration aims to accelerate the integration of the Hürjet into the Spanish Air Force inventory, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028.

The partnership involves supplying up to 30 Hürjet aircraft to Spain to meet its jet trainer needs. This strategic alliance not only marks a significant export milestone for the Hürjet project but also aims to establish strong, sustainable cooperation within the European defense industry, enhancing defense and aviation ties between Türkiye and Europe.

Key goals of the partnership include facilitating the procurement and delivery of the Hürjet jet trainers to Spain, combining TAI's engineering capabilities with Airbus’s regional market presence to accelerate Hürjet’s European integration, demonstrating the technological maturity and competitiveness of the Turkish aerospace industry on a global scale, and deepening defense industry cooperation between Türkiye and European countries.

The agreement was formalized during the 2025 International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul and is expected to culminate in a final sales contract by the end of 2025. The strategic partnership is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the Turkish aviation industry's presence in the European defense industry.

Mehmet Demiroğlu, head of TUSAS, stated that they have overcome another important milestone in the European journey of Hürjet. He believes that this agreement will further deepen defense industry cooperation between Turkey and Europe, and pave the way for Turkish engineering to play a greater role in Europe's future aviation projects.

The partnership could potentially open doors for further collaborations and partnerships between TUSAS and other European defense industry players. It could also lead to increased collaboration and participation of Turkish engineering in future European aviation projects. This strategic partnership could potentially expand the reach and influence of the Turkish aviation industry in the European defense industry.
