Aircraft bottom sustain damage during landing at Frontier Airlines.
On April 15, 2025, an A321neo operated by Frontier Airlines experienced an unusual hard landing at San Juan Airport in Puerto Rico. The incident, which occurred without any initial reports of injuries, caused significant damage to the nose gear of the aircraft. One of the wheels broke off during the landing, sending debris towards the left engine, which is a CFM LEAP-1A.
In response to the hard landing, the crew initiated a go-around maneuver, a standard procedure used to abort a landing and attempt another approach. Remarkably, the affected jet, part of Frontier Airlines' modern A321neo fleet, managed a controlled return to the runway after the initial mishap. Following the incident, the aircraft flew over the airport grounds once more before landing safely.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Frontier Airlines have launched investigations to determine the exact causes and sequence of events that led to the hard landing. As of now, the identities of the captain and first officer remain undisclosed.
