During a recent visit to Delhi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's chartered Dassault Falcon 2000 jet, bound for Phalodi Air Force Station, landed at the wrong airstrip – a civil airstrip in Phalodi, approximately 5 km from the intended Indian Air Force (IAF) station airstrip.
Upon recognizing the error, the pilots took off again and safely landed at the designated military airstrip. The Chief Minister proceeded with his engagements and later flew to Jaipur.
The incident has sparked an investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which grounded the pilots pending inquiry. Reasons cited for the mistaken landing include misidentification caused by the close proximity and similar layout of the two airfields and inadequate pre-flight briefing for the flight crew about the presence of these two airstrips in close vicinity.
The charter company filed a voluntary report acknowledging the wrong landing, triggering the DGCA probe focused on assessing procedural lapses and coordination between civil and military aviation authorities.
