Airline Japan Airlines (JAL) extends service agreement with Collins Aerospace for the maintenance of its Boeing 787 fleet in the Asia-Pacific region.
Japan Airlines (JAL) has renewed its contract with Collins Aerospace, extending the use of the FlightSense programme and Ascentia platform for the maintenance and management of their Boeing 787 fleet. The announcement was made during the Aviation Week MRO Asia-Pacific 2025 event in Singapore.
The FlightSense programme, a comprehensive service provided by Collins Aerospace, integrates predictive health maintenance with analytics-powered recommendations. The Ascentia platform, a component of the FlightSense programme, interprets millions of aircraft data points to identify performance trends and provide actionable insights.
The use of the Ascentia platform aims to help JAL improve reliability and optimize maintenance planning. This complete support package from Collins Aerospace helps JAL to tailor maintenance decisions and enables improved operational efficiency.
Under the renewed contract, Collins Aerospace will provide asset, logistic support, certified repairs, and predictive health maintenance through the FlightSense programme. The agreement covers air management systems and electric power components across JAL's existing fleet of more than 50 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft, as well as future deliveries through to 2035.
Kyohei Takizawa, vice president of JAL procurement, expressed satisfaction with the renewed contract. He stated, "We are pleased to continue our partnership with Collins Aerospace. The FlightSense programme and Ascentia analytics services have proven to be instrumental in maintaining the operational efficiency of our Boeing 787 fleet."
The extended analytics services will enable JAL to harness advanced data insights to drive operational efficiency and reduce lifecycle costs. The contract also extends JAL's Ascentia® analytics services for five more years.
Currently, Japan Airlines operates a fleet of 23 Boeing 787-8 aircraft maintained under Collins Aerospace's FlightSense program, and an additional 13 Boeing 787-9 are scheduled for delivery by 2035. The renewed contract is significant for improving the quality and parts management of JAL's Boeing 787 fleet.
The agreement is for a period of 10 years, with the analytics services extension lasting an additional 5 years. This renewed partnership between Collins Aerospace and Japan Airlines is a testament to the value that data-driven, predictive maintenance solutions bring to the aviation industry.
