Akmola Region Recovers Over 300 Hectares from Burabay Park, Tackles Land Misuse
In Akmola Region, authorities have been addressing widespread land misuse and illegal plot allocations. Over 1,000 plots, totaling more than 300 hectares, were unlawfully removed from the protected Burabay National Nature Park. The regional prosecutor's office has stepped in, conducting 42 inspections and taking disciplinary action against officials.
The illegal activities included exceeding legal limits, as seen in Zerenda District where 30 plots were allocated for market gardening. In Akkol District, land was allocated without competitive bidding, bypassing the tender process. Common violations also involved failure to use land for its intended purpose, with 13 undeveloped forestry plots in Akkol District being returned to state ownership.
Since November 2022, the Agency for Protection and Use of Natural Resources has been working to reclaim land parcels from the Burabay National Nature Park. Notable recoveries include three plots totaling 5,500 hectares from Stakhanovo Agro LLP in Yereymentau District. In total, 53 land plots with a value of 5.3 billion tenge were reclaimed by the state. These reclaimed plots have been put to good use, with unused land transferred to rural districts for livestock grazing, reducing the regional pasture deficit by 100,000 hectares.
The regional prosecutor's office has shown commitment to addressing land legislation violations. Their efforts have resulted in the recovery of significant land areas and the disciplining of officials responsible for illegal allocations. The reclaimed land has been repurposed to benefit the region's livestock industry, demonstrating a proactive approach to land management.
