Alaska Airlines has ended the ground halt for its mainline aircraft, as announced by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, Alaska Airlines experienced an IT outage that affected critical systems used for flight planning, crew communication, and passenger processing. As a result, the airline requested a temporary ground stop for all Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights starting around 8 p.m. Pacific Time.

The ground stop lasted approximately three hours, ending at 11 p.m., and led to significant delays and crowding, particularly at Seattle-Tacoma Airport and other hubs. The FAA's status page indicated that all destinations were impacted by the ground stop, stating "Ground stop all Alaska mainline and Horizon aircraft."

The cause of the outage was not publicly confirmed, with it being described only as an IT failure without details on whether it stemmed from a software malfunction, third-party infrastructure issues, or cybersecurity problems. Despite the outage being resolved, residual operational impacts and delays continued as the airline repositioned aircraft and crews to normalize service.

The ground stop was shown on the FAA's status page, and Alaska Airlines' operations resumed late Sunday. The airline apologised for the inconvenience and encouraged guests to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport.

It is worth noting that the stock price of Alaska Air Group Inc. (ALK) decreased by 5.68% due to the tech outage.

In a separate incident, no information about a Delta Regional pilot making an 'aggressive maneuver' to avoid a midair collision with a B-52 Bomber was provided in this report.
